Coming from Northern California
If you are coming from the North, heading south on Hwy 99, you can save approximately one hour by cutting off at Madera. As you come into Madera heading south, the second main exit is Cleveland Ave. At the stop light at Cleveland, turn left and you will come back across Hwy 99. Then you will cross the light at Golden State Ave. Then you will cross the Southern Pacific Railroad tracks. The road is a little confusing at this point because it veers to the right, then again to the left. Just stay on Cleveland through Madera approximately 1 1/2 miles and it will sweep right and to a "Stop" sign at Yosemite Ave. (Hwy 145). Turn left and stay on Hwy 145. You will come to a stop light at Hwy 41 and the sign will read left to Yosemite and Oakhurst and to the right Fresno. Do not turn, just cross Hwy 41 on to the next stop sign which will be Road 206. Turn right and after a couple of miles you will see Friant Dam on your left and then you will cross the San Joaquin River. The road will end at the community of Friant. There's a Shell Station and Pizza Factory here in case your need gas or food. Turn left and follow Millerton Road past the Millerton State Park entrance. You will see Lake Millerton on your left. Continuing on Millerton Road you will see a large golf course on the right then the Table Mountain Casino on the left. Continue until the road ends at Auberry Road. On your left is Millerton store. Turn left and continue up Auberry Road approximately nine miles to the community of Prather. Auberry road ends at Hwy 168 (at the stop sign). Prather is a good rest stop. There is a Chevron station, Canyon Fork Super Market, Longs Drug Store, Ace Hardware, Velasco's (an excellent mexican food restaurant), a Foster Freeze drive in and Bill's Pizza Factory (a great place for a pizza).
